The Government of Haiti sends a humanitarian medical mission to Venezuela to support people affected by two violent earthquakes on June 24. Haiti’s delegation arrives in Venezuela on Tuesday, July 7, responding to the country’s continuing earthquake aftermath. Jamaican outlet reporting, citing Haitian officials, says the mission is led by Haiti’s Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr Sinal Bertrand. The team includes 29 specialist physicians and brings 5.5 tonnes of medical supplies. The specialists cover multiple disciplines, including orthopedics, surgery, anesthesiology, gynecology, and internal medicine, and they work alongside Venezuelan health officials. The shipment includes medical equipment such as ultrasound machines, oxygen concentrators, and specialized pediatric equipment. Haitian officials state the team will remain for as long as needed—potentially 15, 20, or 30 days or longer—to support emergency healthcare and recovery services. Venezuelan health officials receive the delegation and coordinate where personnel are deployed, including areas described as among the hardest hit, such as Caracas and the state of La Guaira. Sources also report that Venezuelan authorities state the earthquakes killed thousands and injured many others, with additional people missing.
