The Sokoto State House of Assembly adopts a motion over persistent poor mobile (GSM) and internet service quality across the state and orders telecommunications operators and regulators to appear before a committee. The motion is moved by Aminu Gidado, representing Sokoto South II Constituency, and seconded by Shamsu Aliyu of Wurno Constituency during a Wednesday plenary session. Lawmakers cite weak network coverage, frequent call drops, delayed text messages and prolonged outages affecting residents and businesses. They say the problems also disrupt activities such as commerce, education, healthcare, banking, governance and security, with some areas experiencing service unavailability for hours or even a full day. Speakers and lawmakers also note that subscribers continue to pay significant charges for voice and data despite recurring network failures. Following the unanimous adoption of the motion, the Assembly directs its committee to summon GSM service providers and relevant regulators to explain the issues and present a roadmap for resolving the challenges. The Assembly further calls on the Sokoto State Government to work with federal agencies and telecom operators to improve infrastructure and service delivery.
