Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde directs disciplinary action against senior officials of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) after monsoon-related failures come under scrutiny. Following severe rains and gusty winds, large numbers of trees and branches fall across municipal areas, disrupting local infrastructure and creating public safety hazards. In response, Shinde holds TMC leadership accountable for alleged lapses in pre-monsoon tree maintenance, including tree trimming and safety audits.
According to reports, Shinde orders the suspension of Tree Authority Assistant Commissioner Rajesh Sonawane and Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) Chief Yasin Tadvi, and directs the transfer of Tree Authority Officer Kedar Patil. The crackdown also includes instructions for the Municipal Commissioner to remove or shift non-performing or negligent personnel within the relevant departments.
Shinde additionally reviews the emergency response during the rain episode and targets the disaster management leadership for not adequately supervising or visiting key incident sites. The actions are presented as part of a broader attempt to enforce preparedness and improve on-ground response during seasonal emergencies.
