A video circulating online shows Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee appearing to slap a man during a protest march in Kolkata. Sources say the clip surfaced amid widespread debate online, and none of the reports confirm the video’s authenticity or independently verify what exactly happens or the identity of the person involved. The incident is described as occurring on Wednesday after the TMC organised a protest against the alleged rape and murder of an 11-year-old girl in Baruipur. In the footage, Banerjee is seen moving through a large crowd of party leaders, supporters, and security personnel following the rally. At one point, she appears to raise her hand toward a man close by, after which people around her, including security personnel, push the individual away while she continues walking.
Separately, Banerjee accuses the BJP of trying to disrupt the march despite it being allowed following a Calcutta High Court order. The protest route reportedly saw clashes between BJP and TMC youth workers, and police used force to control the situation. On the same day, the Enforcement Directorate announced it has frozen about Rs 440.42 crore in TMC bank deposits under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act as part of an investigation.
