The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has ordered the immediate suspension of the food business licence of K. Rustom & Co.’s ice cream outlet at Churchgate in Mumbai. Reports say the FDA conducted an inspection over two days at the establishment located at Brabourne Stadium House on Veer Nariman Road. The inspections found multiple alleged breaches of food safety and hygiene requirements under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Authorities cited the presence of live rats and flies inside the premises, along with lapses in maintaining sanitary conditions. Sources also report disruption of cold chain operations, non-maintenance of mandatory records, and the presence of expired food products and expired flavouring agents on site.

Based on these findings, the FDA issued an order to suspend the licence under Section 32(3) of the Act, stating that the deficiencies could compromise food safety and public health. The suspension prevents the outlet from continuing food business operations until it addresses the reported issues and complies with required food safety norms. The action is described as part of a wider enforcement effort by the state FDA to tackle food safety violations across Maharashtra.
