Delta State’s SafeCity Security Service, working with operatives of the Delta State Police Command, announces the arrest of a wanted bandit, Abubakar Usman, after the kidnapping of Mrs Blessing Chiedu. Chiedu, a native of Umunede Kingdom, is reported to have been abducted on 2 July 2026 along the Ani-Ifekide Farm Road in Ubulu-Uku. According to SafeCity spokesperson Harrison Gwamnishu, the kidnappers demanded a ransom of N100 million. After receiving information, the teams escalate the case and the Delta State Police Anti-Kidnapping Squad in Asaba, led by CSP Osakpolor, carries out a coordinated rescue operation. Using a Hydra Tech Surveillance System, security forces reportedly locate the gang’s hideout in the Ogwashi-Uku/Adonta Forest. A gun battle follows, and the operation results in the capture of Abubakar Usman. Mrs Blessing Chiedu is reported to be rescued alive and unharmed along the Ubulu-Unor/Ashama Road. The reports also state that other members of the gang escape into the forest with firearms, and investigations link Usman and his group to multiple kidnappings in Igbodo, Umunede, and nearby communities.
