A senior aide to presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar calls on Nigeria’s anti-graft and security agencies to invite President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, for questioning over alleged links to the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC). Demola Olarenwaju, a Senior Political Assistant to Atiku and of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), says the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Department of State Services (DSS) and other agencies should treat Gbajabiamila as they have handled former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, including suspending him while investigations proceed. Olarenwaju argues Gbajabiamila should step aside during an independent probe and that Tinubu’s position on suspending him may indicate deeper involvement.
The controversy centers on Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, described as the PFIPC’s Director-General, who is facing charges of forgery, impersonation and obtaining by false pretenses after being arraigned in a Federal High Court. Gbajabiamila previously says he does not know Adeyemi and that the PFIPC does not exist, adding that he notified security agencies after learning of alleged fake appointment letters. Tinubu has ordered an independent investigation, and the matter has generated broader political reactions, including parliamentary scrutiny.
