Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI), the two-wheeler arm of Honda Motor Co, says it plans to create more than 3,800 jobs in India by 2028 alongside an expansion of its annual production capacity to 80 lakh units. Honda’s President and CEO Tsutsumu Otani links the move to India’s growing importance in the company’s global manufacturing and export strategy, saying the expanded capacity is intended to support rising domestic demand and increasing international markets.

Across reports, Honda’s capacity growth is tied to additional production lines in India and broader industry expectations. Otani also speaks about the outlook for India’s two-wheeler market, expressing confidence in long-term growth supported by factors such as improving rural infrastructure, rising personal mobility needs, greater workforce participation by women, and demand for premium products. He notes that near-term growth may be more moderate and is influenced by external variables including monsoon conditions, logistics costs, raw material prices, and geopolitical developments.

Honda reiterates it is pursuing a multi-technology approach, with electric mobility described as an important pillar of its long-term vision, while also continuing internal combustion engine and alternative-fuel pathways.
