A venomous snake bites four girl students in a private school hostel in Jharkhand’s Lohardaga district, killing one 12-year-old and hospitalising three others, police said. The incident happens on Tuesday night at Sanvasira Higher Secondary Residential School in Rocho Mahuatoli, within the Kuru police station limits. According to police and the school’s account, after dinner the students go to their ground-floor hostel rooms to sleep. One girl is bitten, and when she screams the other students wake up, but the snake has already bitten three more students. The dead student is identified as Varsha Oraon. Two of the injured students receive treatment at Lohardaga Sadar Hospital. A third student is referred to Ranchi’s RIMS for further care. Officials say it is not clear how the snake enters the hostel room. The reports consistently describe the same number of victims, the timing of the incident, and the locations of treatment and referral.
