An 8-year-old girl is found raped and murdered in a forested area in Assam’s Sribhumi district. According to reports, the girl went missing earlier in the day, and her body was later discovered in the forest. Local residents say they informed the police outpost at Madanmohan/Madan Mohan Patrol Post, located reportedly a short distance from the crime scene, but the police did not arrive immediately. The alleged delay leads to public agitation, including calls for justice and a road blockade in some accounts. Residents also claim police arrived late to secure the scene.
Multiple outlets report that a 22-year-old man is apprehended by locals and handed over to the police, who subsequently register the case and take the suspect into custody for allegedly raping and murdering the child. Following the complaints over timing and handling of the investigation, the officer-in-charge of the outpost is reportedly sent to police lines pending an inquiry. Police inquiries and further legal action are underway as authorities investigate the incident.
