A suspected bandit kingpin, Abubakar Usman, is arrested in Delta State after an operation at his hideout in the Ogwashi-Uku/Adonta Forest, according to reports. Delta State Police operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, working with the SafeCity Security Service, apprehend him on Wednesday following an exchange of gunfire with suspected kidnappers. One report says Usman and other members of his gang rear cattle for an Alhaji based in Abuja, which Usman describes as the person the group works for, though he does not know the Alhaji’s exact residence.

The reports link the arrest to a kidnapping case: Mrs. Blessing Chiedu, a native of Umunede Kingdom, is kidnapped on July 2, 2026, along the Ani-Ifekide Farm Road in Ubulu-Uku. A human rights activist, Harrison Gwamnishu, states that the kidnappers demand a N100 million ransom. Another report adds that Usman claims the gang received about N5 million ransom from one victim, and says he travelled from Niger State to Delta and met two other gang members. Social media videos show the suspect being interviewed after his arrest.
