GitLab Inc. says it is cutting jobs to reallocate resources toward growth opportunities tied to “agentic” artificial intelligence software. The company makes tools that help developers manage and build code, and it is shifting internal processes and organization to support the development and deployment of AI agents.
According to reports, GitLab’s plans include flattening management layers and reorganizing research and development into about 60 smaller, semi-autonomous units. The company also plans to reduce its country footprint by roughly 30%, and it intends to use AI agents to automate internal workflow tasks such as reviews, approvals, and handoffs.
Bloomberg reports that the job cuts are meant to free up budget for investment. The Next Web adds that GitLab does not yet specify the exact number of roles affected.
