McLaren introduces the 788HS, a track-focused final model in the company’s mid-engined V8 “750S” family lineage. The car is built by McLaren Special Operations (MSO) and is presented as the successor to the 750S, arriving with a comprehensive rework of the platform rather than a minor update. The 788HS uses a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 producing 777 bhp and 590 lb-ft, which McLaren says makes it the most powerful derivative of its mid-engined supercar range; the 765LT is cited at 755 bhp. McLaren also states the car reduces dry weight to 1265 kg through carbonfibre bodywork. Performance figures reported include 0–62 mph in 2.8 seconds, 124 mph in 7.0 seconds, and a 205 mph top speed. Key changes include an F1-inspired aerodynamic package with an active rear spoiler and new front splitter and rear diffuser, plus modified suspension and upgraded carbon-ceramic braking hardware. The 788HS is offered as a coupe and a spider, with 200 units planned in total. Pricing starts at £450,000, and the range of options is expected to significantly affect final cost. The release also comes as McLaren prepares for a post-April 2025 restructuring after its merger with Forseven.
