A 23-year-old Hong Kong man, Chan Ho-hin, pleads guilty in District Court to inciting subversion under Hong Kong’s national security law, according to two reports. The court hears that Chan is linked to promoting a pro-Taiwan political party and spreading related messages through public and online channels. Both outlets say he made statements asserting that the Taiwanese government is the only legitimate regime and urged people in Hong Kong to support and join the “Revive the Republic of China Freedom Party” in Taiwan. Prosecutors’ accounts cited by the outlets describe promotion carried out on social media as well as in physical materials, including leaflets or street posters placed in public places. Chan enters his plea after his arrest in April last year, and the case is heard at the District Court. The reports focus on his guilty plea and the conduct alleged and described in court, including his role in disseminating pro-Taiwan and anti-Communist messaging and encouraging others to join the Taiwan-based party.
