San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is inviting bids to develop, build and operate a new premium “private luxury” terminal for passengers willing to pay extra. The plan would create a terminal that serves commercial flights, rather than business or corporate jets, and would include dedicated Transportation Security Administration (TSA) screening lines and separate U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) lines for international travel. SFO is seeking a partner to handle development, construction and ongoing operations.

According to reporting on the proposal, the terminal is planned for a 75,000-square-foot site located across the runway from existing public terminals. SFO intends to accept proposals from late September to early October, with a contract award targeted for early December. The airport hopes to open the terminal in late 2028.

The initiative follows similar private terminal models at other major U.S. airports, including Los Angeles and several others. Some private terminals in the U.S. are operated through the company Private Suite (PS), linked to the security firm Gavin de Becker and Associates, which has discussed expansion at major airports.
