Mumbai Airport Customs officials arrest a Singaporean national at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in connection with an alleged gold smuggling case. The Times of India and Free Press Journal reports say the man arrived from Singapore and was intercepted while crossing the Green Channel. Customs officers conduct an examination and a personal search, during which they find two crude 24KT gold chains concealed beneath the passenger’s clothing, tied around his waist.

Both outlets report the seized gold is valued at roughly ₹2.47 crore–₹2.5 crore, based on the chains’ total weight (2,000 grams gross and net, as described by Free Press Journal). The man’s statement is recorded, and he allegedly admits to possession, concealment, carriage, and non-declaration of the gold, including that he agreed to smuggle it in return for monetary consideration. After the statement, he is arrested and produced before a court. Free Press Journal says he is remanded to judicial custody, and that investigations are in an early stage to determine whether a larger smuggling network is involved.
