Former police officer Yogendra Sukhdeo is sentenced to life imprisonment for the 2023 murder of businessman Amit Singh in Georgetown. The case centers on the killing of Singh, which occurred on 24 October 2023 at Middle Road, La Penitence. Prosecutors say Singh was lured to a house on Middle Road by Sukhdeo, where the robbery and killing took place. According to the Guyana Police Force, the incident is described as a robbery-murder involving about US$8 million.
The sentencing is handed down in the Demerara High Court by Justice Sandil Kissoon. As reported, Sukhdeo, described as 30 years old, admits to the capital offence. The Guyana Chronicle reports that he must serve at least 30 years before becoming eligible to apply for parole.
