Former police officer Yogendra Sukhdeo is sentenced to life imprisonment for the 2023 robbery-murder of 21-year-old businessman Amit Singh. The cases reported by multiple outlets say the killing occurred on 24 October 2023 at Middle Road, La Penitence, Georgetown. According to accounts attributed to the Guyana Police Force, Singh is lured to a house on Middle Road, where he is killed during the robbery. Sukhdeo, described as about 30 years old and from Diamond in East Bank Demerara, is tried in the Demerara High Court before Justice Sandil Kissoon. Reports state that Sukhdeo admits to the capital offence, leading to the sentencing decision. The court orders that Sukhdeo must serve a minimum term of 30 years before becoming eligible for parole.
