A sellers’ trade body has filed a complaint with India’s Competition Commission of India (CCI) against Flipkart, alleging unfair business practices. According to the complaint filed by the Forum for Internet Retailers, Sellers & Traders (FIRST), Flipkart’s conduct distorts competition in the online retail marketplace. FIRST alleges that Flipkart uses deep discounting mechanisms and a “fund reservoir” model to influence pricing and market outcomes. The body says these mechanisms can favor preferred sellers and make it harder for independent or smaller retailers to compete on equal terms. The complaint also argues that Flipkart’s arrangements affect how outside sellers participate in the marketplace and that these practices have competitive impacts beyond individual transactions. The filing seeks CCI scrutiny of the alleged competitive effects tied to the platform’s discounting and funding-related arrangements.
