OpenAI executive Fidji Simo, the company’s head of AGI deployment and its No. 2 figure, is stepping down from her full-time role following a prolonged medical leave. Multiple outlets report that Simo does not expect to return to her prior position after an illness-related leave that lasts longer than initially anticipated. Simo had taken medical leave in April, and in a public note she indicates that her treatment and recovery will require more time and involve greater complexity than expected. Sources also say OpenAI is preparing for a leadership transition as the company navigates operational and strategic milestones, including discussions around a possible initial public offering and efforts to expand enterprise deployments.
