A government primary school teacher in Uttar Pradesh is suspended after allegations that he attempted to sexually assault a 14-year-old boy. The district Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) Manish Singh said the teacher, Ghulam Mustafa alias Pappu (50), teaching in Sisotar village, was suspended on Thursday. The BSA also said a disciplinary inquiry has been ordered, with strict action planned after the inquiry report is received.

According to police, Mustafa called the student to his house on July 5 on the pretext of some work. Police allege that once the boy was inside, the teacher locked the door and attempted an “unnatural sexual assault.” The case is registered on the basis of a written complaint by the victim.

Police said they arrested Mustafa on Monday, completed legal formalities, and sent him to judicial custody after producing him before a court. The matter is being investigated under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, as cited by police and the reports.
