A Virgin Voyages cruise ship carrying an LGBTQ+ event is refused entry to Egypt after it was also blocked from docking in Turkey. Organisers say the Scarlet Lady, chartered for a trip that had planned calls in the eastern Mediterranean, was rejected by Turkish authorities last week, disrupting the itinerary. In response, the organisers arranged an alternative port stop in Alexandria, with the ship scheduled to dock there on 9 July. However, the permissions for the Alexandria call are also reported to have been withdrawn. Atlantis Events CEO Rich Campbell says the ship’s entry into Egypt has been denied, following the earlier rejection in Turkey. The denial affects the cruise’s planned route and timing, leaving the organisers to reassess the itinerary after both countries decline entry or docking permission. The reports describe the situation as a consecutive refusal of port access for the same cruise, first in Turkey and then in Egypt, with the organisers attributing the change to permissions being pulled.
