Three Thai sailors who say their cargo ship was hit in the Strait of Hormuz in March have filed a lawsuit in Thailand against their former employer and related parties. Reported by multiple outlets, the men claim a projectile struck the vessel, killing three crew members, and that the operator and the ship’s captain endangered their lives. They also allege the company dismissed them before their nine-month contracts ended and that they received only about two months’ salary. One lawyer said the sailors later developed post-traumatic stress disorder and were unable to return to sea, and that the company denied responsibility, prompting legal action.
A Reuters report cited by Al-Monitor says Thailand’s Labour Court accepts the petition. The sailors seek damages of at least 1 million baht (about $30,000) for each sailor from companies and agencies linked to Precious Shipping and from the captain. The case centers on both the circumstances of the March attack and alleged labour rights violations, including dismissal and unpaid compensation.
