Puri in Odisha is in the final stages of preparations for the Jagannath Rath Yatra 2026, with the city’s main stretch, Bada Danda, being decorated ahead of the chariot procession. The nearly 3-km road connecting the Jagannath Temple to the Gundicha Temple is adorned with colourful murals, traditional motifs, rangoli designs, and decorative installations drawing on Odisha’s cultural heritage, including themes linked to Jagannath culture and mythology and Pattachitra art. Artists and residents work day and night to complete the artwork for the festival expected to draw large crowds.

Separately, the Puri district administration has announced a temporary drone “No Flying Zone” over a 5-km radius around the town from July 16 to July 27, 2026. The restriction is intended to improve safety and security for millions of devotees, prevent disruptions, and support surveillance and emergency response during the movement of the three wooden chariots carrying Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra. Only authorised government agencies and security personnel are permitted to operate drones during the restricted period. The Rath Yatra is scheduled to begin on July 16, 2026, and conclude on July 27, 2026.
