Railway engineering associations are urging the government to incorporate several changes in the 8th Central Pay Commission’s final recommendations. AIREF (All India Railway Engineers Federation) is asking for the restoration of pay parity for railway engineers and for an expansion of Group B posts, arguing that current structures limit progression. The groups also seek measures to address career stagnation, including improvements to career progression pathways for engineers.
According to reports, AIREF has raised these issues during stakeholder discussions linked to the commission’s review process, including meetings in Bhubaneswar. In addition to pay parity and staffing, the federation is seeking better allowances for railway engineers. The requests are presented as inputs to be considered before the commission finalizes its report, with the federation calling for changes aimed at improving both pay alignment and long-term professional growth within the railway engineering cadre.
