FCT Police Command says it rescues four residents after a kidnapping incident in Mpape, Abuja, which led to a gun battle with suspected kidnappers. Police Public Relations Officer SP Josephine Adeh states that officers responded after receiving a distress call on July 8, 2026, reporting that armed kidnappers invaded the Yellow House area of Mpape at about 10:40 pm and abducted four people.

According to the police account, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, deploys Anti-Kidnapping Unit operatives, personnel from Katampe and Mpape divisions, and the 24 Police Mobile Force Squadron to the scene. Preliminary findings indicate the kidnappers shoot two victims before leaving with the hostages. The wounded victims are taken to a hospital; one victim later dies from injuries, while the other is receiving treatment.

Police teams pursue the suspects toward Jikoko Hills and into the Ushafa Forest. On July 10 at around 12:05 am, the operatives locate the suspects with the hostages. A heavy exchange of gunfire follows, and police force the kidnappers to abandon the victims and flee into the hills and forest. The four kidnapped victims are rescued and reunited with their families, while efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects continue.
