India’s Sports Ministry approves a 191-strong contingent for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, which begin on July 23. The contingent includes 126 athletes and 51 team officials. The Ministry’s approval is issued through a notification that also sets out conditions for how officials are covered by government arrangements.
The notification clarifies that the government will not bear expenses for team officials who are elected members of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) Executive Committee. It also specifies that the IOA will ensure that any person holding elected positions in the IOA Executive Committee or in other sports bodies whose names appear in the team officials list is treated at no cost to the government.
The Ministry’s notification defines “team officials” to include coaches, support staff, medical staff, and contingent officials. It also requires that, after the Games, a detailed report on the contingent’s performance—along with action photographs—be submitted to the Ministry within 30 days of the contingent’s return to India.
Among the athletes, the delegation includes 78 men and 48 women.
