British King Charles III and Queen Camilla will attend the opening ceremony of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games on Thursday, July 23, organisers announced. The ceremony will be held at The Hydro in Glasgow and marks the official start of the scaled-down, multi-sport event.

According to a statement from Commonwealth Sport, Charles will read aloud a message he placed into the King’s Baton on Commonwealth Day, March 10, 2025, at Buckingham Palace. The message is linked to the Games’ relay, which Commonwealth Sport says was launched with Sir Chris Hoy as the first Baton bearer.

The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games run from July 23 through August 2, with the opening ceremony scheduled for July 23 as the ceremony in which Glasgow 2026 is officially declared open. The organisers say the King and Queen’s attendance will coincide with the reading of the baton message during the programme.
