The National Medical Commission (NMC) issues approvals for increased MBBS intake at government medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, according to multiple reports. In Andhra Pradesh, NMC clears an expansion for two government colleges: 75 additional MBBS seats for the government medical college in Kadapa and 25 additional seats for the ACSR government medical college in Nellore. The approvals are described as letters of permission (LoPs) for the 2026–27 academic year. One report also states that this results in a total increase of 175 seats at the Kadapa college and 175 seats at the Nellore college, with the NMC approval raising the totals further to 250 for Kadapa and 200 for Nellore. Separately, The Hindu reports that NMC sanctions additional MBBS capacity at two government colleges in Andhra Pradesh—100 seats for a college in Piduguralla starting 2026–27, and 75 additional seats for a government medical college in Vijayawada. In Telangana, reports say NMC approves 810 additional MBBS seats for 2026–27 across government, private and deemed colleges, lifting the state’s total MBBS seats to about 10,000.
