Mumbai Police arrest television actor Rohit Chandel in connection with allegations of stalking, harassment and assault of a 16-year-old girl. Police say the case is registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Reports describe that the minor’s complaint alleges repeated contact, including calls, and confrontations by the actor near the girl’s residence. One report states that on July 5 he allegedly confronted her near her building, argued with her, verbally abused her and assaulted her by hitting her. Other coverage says the victim was allegedly disturbed for some time.

Chandel is apprehended from his Dahisar residence and is later produced before a special POCSO court. He is sent to judicial custody, with reports also mentioning court remand to police custody before subsequent custody decisions. Police state the investigation is ongoing. In one report, the actress Madirakshi Mundle, a co-star from the TV show “Sairaab,” comments that opinions should not be formed without hearing both sides. No public statement by Chandel or his representatives is reported in the sources.
