A seven-year-old girl is found dead in the basement of an under-construction mall in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. Police say the child’s body is recovered during the early hours from the building’s basement. Family members allege she was raped before being murdered, and in some accounts the family says she was lured with snacks. Two labourers are arrested and are accused of luring the child into the premises and committing sexual assault and murder. According to police, the investigation is aided by CCTV footage that helps reconstruct events inside the site. Reports also describe multiple injuries, including head injuries, and forensic evidence at the scene such as bloodstains and an iron rod allegedly used in the assault. Police suspect the child may have been thrown from an upper level into a lower portion of the structure, but they state the exact sequence of events is still being determined. Authorities register cases under relevant criminal provisions including POCSO and charges related to kidnapping and murder, based on the family’s complaint. A post-mortem and forensic reports are referenced as part of the ongoing investigation.
