South Korea is experiencing a heat wave on Saturday, the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) says. In the southeast, temperatures climb to a high of 39.9°C at Hayang-eup in Gyeongsan, recorded at 2:23 p.m. The temperature later drops to 38.3°C by 2:55 p.m., according to KMA data. Other areas in the region also record elevated readings before 2 p.m., including 38.2°C in Daegu, 37.5°C in Gyeongju and 36.8°C in Yangsan. Elsewhere in the country, maximum temperatures before 2 p.m. are reported as 34.4°C in Daejeon, 34.3°C in Gwangju, 33.0°C in Busan and 32.4°C in Seoul. The KMA says the heat wave is expected to continue for some time. With high humidity, apparent temperatures are forecast to rise to around 33°C in most parts of the country and to more than 35°C in the capital region, Chungcheong and southern areas. Heat wave alerts are issued for 209 of the country’s 235 land weather advisory zones, where advisories are based on expected apparent temperatures remaining above 33°C for at least two days.
