Odisha Chief Minister directs a criminal investigation into alleged errors in school textbooks, officials said. According to a statement released by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) and reports citing the CMO, the Chief Minister asks the Director of the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) to register a First Information Report (FIR) and file it with the Crime Branch. The order includes instructions to approach the Crime Branch, specifically the Superintendent of Police (SP) of the Crime Branch, for further action.

The move follows concerns raised over inaccuracies in the textbooks used in schools. The Chief Minister’s order calls for the matter to be treated seriously and for an inquiry to proceed on a criminal basis rather than only through administrative corrections. Both outlets report that the decision is framed as a probe into the textbook errors and that SCERT is responsible for initiating the FIR process as part of the investigation.
