Karnataka’s Lokayukta has submitted a request to the Governor seeking permission to prosecute Congress MLA and former minister Zameer Ahmed Khan in a disproportionate assets case. The Lokayukta’s probe finds that Khan possesses assets worth about ₹25 crore that are said to be beyond his known sources of income. According to reports, the Lokayukta has compiled thousands of pages of documents and, once the Governor grants consent, it will file the final charge sheet in court.

The matter traces back to 2018, when the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided Khan’s home while he was the Wakf minister. The ED investigation related to an alleged multi-crore ponzi scheme linked to “Islamic Banking” run by Mohammed Mansoor Khan. The ED’s findings prompted the case to move toward an assets investigation, initially directed to the Karnataka Anti Corruption Bureau, which was later shut down and transferred to the Lokayukta.

During the Lokayukta inquiry, it is stated that his assets increased substantially after he became an MLA and later a minister, including a house reportedly valued at over ₹20 crore. Khan is reported to have claimed large hand loans from several individuals, but the Lokayukta concluded there were no records supporting repayment or lending.
