Aditya Birla Group proposes an additional ₹12,000 crore investment to expand Hindalco’s greenfield alumina refinery at Kansariguda in Rayagada district, Odisha. The expansion would increase the refinery’s capacity from 1 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) to 3 mtpa. According to reports, the company already has an alumina refinery and two smelter plants in Odisha and is implementing a 1 mtpa Kansariguda greenfield refinery project through Hindalco Industries Limited. This initial project is reported to have an estimated investment of about ₹8,000 crore, while the proposed expansion is expected to raise the overall project cost to around ₹20,000 crore.
The outlets also note that the additional capacity is expected to support related downstream activities and contribute to job creation, aligning with Odisha’s broader position in aluminium and metallurgy manufacturing. The proposals relate to future expansion plans building on the existing Kansariguda refinery project already under implementation.
