Five people die of suffocation inside a well at a construction site in Shillong, Meghalaya, after being exposed to toxic fumes from a generator. According to reports, four labourers enter the confined space to pump water from the well and are overcome by the fumes. A local resident nearby is also reported to have died at the scene. Two brothers are then said to enter in an attempt to rescue one of the workers who had sought help. The brothers also become trapped and succumb to the same toxic exposure inside the well. First responders and the State Rescue Team recover all five victims from the confined area. All five are later declared dead. The incident is described as occurring while the generator is used in connection with the water-pumping work inside the well, highlighting the danger of operating engines that can produce harmful gases in enclosed spaces. Authorities and rescuers focus on the retrieval of the victims and the circumstances surrounding the use of the generator at the site.
