The Ogun State Water Corporation (OGSWC) says disruptions to pipe-borne water supply in parts of Abeokuta are caused by damage to water distribution pipelines during road construction and urban renewal projects carried out by the previous administration. The corporation rejects assertions that the French Development Agency (AFD)-funded Ogun Urban Water Supply Project failed to meet its objectives. According to OGSWC, the ongoing problems stem from the condition of the distribution network and the impact of civil works on pipes, rather than from the performance of the broader water-supply project supported by AFD funding. While some claims focus on whether the funded scheme achieved expected outcomes, OGSWC maintains that the disruptions are linked to repairs needed after pipeline damage occurred during road-related works. The corporation’s position emphasizes that accountability for the current supply interruptions rests with events that affected the distribution infrastructure after the project’s implementation.
