Union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw says India’s first bullet train project will begin operations in 2027 along the Mumbai–Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor, with sections opened phase by phase. Vaishnaw indicates construction is already under way and that the rollout starts with the Surat–Bilimora segment, followed by subsequent stretches as they complete. He also describes a phased approach beginning next year, tied to the progress of different parts of the corridor.
In addition to the Mumbai–Ahmedabad timeline, Vaishnaw points to broader plans for India’s high-speed rail network and railway infrastructure upgrades. NDTV reports that his comments include future high-speed rail links beyond the initial corridor, as well as infrastructure initiatives in Telangana.
Mint and NDTV both present the 2027 launch date for the first bullet train service and the phasing of the Mumbai–Ahmedabad line, with Vaishnaw outlining how the corridor’s segments will come online sequentially rather than all at once.
