Around 40 students at a government social welfare hostel in Shahada, Nandurbar district, Maharashtra, fall ill after consuming their evening meal, according to multiple reports. Authorities say the symptoms include food poisoning and gastritis, with some students also showing issues related to oxygen and blood pressure. In total, 25 students are hospitalized: 20 are treated at the Rural Hospital in Shahada and 5 are admitted to an intensive care unit (ICO) for closer monitoring, while a few students are also shifted to a private hospital for additional treatment. District Collector Mitali Sethi visits the hospitals and provides updates on the students’ condition, stating that most are stable and out of danger, with continued monitoring and plans for discharge soon after treatment. Police and district officials launch an investigation. Food samples and some vomit samples are collected and sent for laboratory testing to identify the cause. Officials also review hostel operations and indicate that accountability will be fixed, including potentially involving the head manager, social welfare officer, and warden, after lab results are received.
