Railway authorities in Mumbai are investigating a viral video showing a reported argument between a passenger and a railway ticket checker over the use of the Marathi language on a local train. According to preliminary information cited by multiple outlets, the dispute occurs inside an air-conditioned coach and begins after the passenger objects to a ticket checker communicating in Hindi, reportedly insisting that the staff speak Marathi instead. As the exchange escalates, another ticket checker who knows Marathi intervenes and speaks to the passenger in Marathi to de-escalate the situation.

Both outlets report that the incident came to the railways’ notice after the video spread on social media. Authorities say they have seen the video and have launched a preliminary investigation into what happened and the circumstances surrounding the confrontation. They also state that both parties involved approached the Andheri Government Railway Police (GRP) seeking action. After completing the preliminary inquiry, the railways said they will take suitable action based on the findings.
