India and Canada complete the third round of negotiations for the proposed Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in Ottawa, with both sides aiming to wrap up the talks by 2026. Negotiations take place over 6–10 July, according to reports. Discussions cover a range of areas including trade in goods and services, intellectual property, rules of origin, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, and technical barriers to trade. India’s Department of Commerce says the negotiations show “positive progress” across multiple negotiating tracks and reiterate the shared commitment of both countries to conclude the agreement in 2026, aligned with leaders’ expectations. The talks are also linked to broader trade targets: both sides aim to increase bilateral trade to USD 50 billion by 2030. One outlet also reports a recent dip in trade during 2025–26, indicating the negotiations are expected to support future growth. Overall, the sources describe the third round as advancing discussions on key CEPA chapters while keeping the timeline for finalisation unchanged.
