A First Information Report has been filed in Thane against former Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Vinayak Raut, his son Gitesh Raut (a Mumbai corporator) and other family members, following allegations by his estranged daughter-in-law, Girija Raut. Girija says she was subjected to years of physical, mental, emotional and financial harassment after her marriage in December 2017. She also alleges the family deceived her about their financial status, forced her to stop working, and drove a pattern of abuse and coercion during the marriage.

Girija further alleges that between September 2018 and 2022 she was compelled to undergo occult or “black magic” rituals under the guise of medical or fertility treatment. She names multiple self-styled godmen and describes rituals that, according to her complaint, involved animal sacrifices and forced consumption of substances, including cow urine, along with other items.

Raut denies the allegations, calling them false and politically motivated, and says the complaint is linked to ongoing divorce proceedings. He also rejects claims that Girija made extortion demands during mediation.

Police registered the case under sections including Maharashtra’s anti-black magic law. A self-styled godman, Firoz Sheikh, has been arrested, and the accused family has sought anticipatory bail before the Thane Sessions Court.
