Central Railway announces the permanent closure of a gate adjacent to the Kalwa Car Shed in Thane to curb unsafe, unauthorised boarding by passengers. The railway says repeated incidents involve commuters crossing into a non-passenger area and attempting to board empty local train rakes that are halted near the main entry gate due to signals. Authorities state this practice is dangerous because trains can move immediately after receiving a signal, creating a risk of serious injury or death.
According to officials, boarding from car sheds, yards, or signal locations is illegal and punishable under the Railways Act. The Railway Protection Force is set to monitor the area to deter further violations. Central Railway also urges passengers to use only authorised station platforms for boarding and deboarding and to follow published safety rules. The decision follows ongoing safety concerns and will remain in effect as a permanent measure.
