Ogun State Government, through the Ogun Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA), warns market leaders and traders against dumping waste within market premises. The government says refuse left inside markets eventually turns the facilities into dumpsites and creates environmental and health risks. OGWAMA’s Managing Director, Farouk Akintunde, issues the warning in response to growing concerns about refuse accumulation and poor sanitation in parts of the state, including areas along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. According to the reports, OGWAMA signals that markets found disposing refuse indiscriminately will face enforcement action. The warning is directed at traders and market operators to change waste-handling practices and keep market environments clean. If the affected parties do not comply with the directive, the government indicates that markets may be shut down. The notices underscore that the state is moving to improve waste management and reduce conditions linked to environmental degradation and public health concerns.
