The Lucknow–Kanpur Expressway is inaugurated for public use, with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh set to inaugurate the highway on Monday, according to reports. The expressway connects Lucknow, the state capital, with Kanpur and spans about 63 km, forming part of the National Expressway-6 (NE-6). Coverage describes the project as aimed at easing long-standing congestion and reducing travel time between the two cities.

Sources say the journey that previously took about two and a half to three hours is reduced to roughly 35 to 45 minutes on the new corridor. One report also highlights that the inauguration is accompanied by additional highway initiatives in Uttar Pradesh, including other national highway projects valued at over ₹4,850 crore.

The expressway’s technology and tolling arrangements are also highlighted. It is described as using a free-flow tolling approach without conventional toll plazas, with toll deductions handled through FASTag and automatic number plate recognition. Safety features cited include extensive camera coverage and video incident detection systems. The reports also mention ongoing environmental measures, including large-scale sapling plantation along the route. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath are reported to attend the event.
