Three women warkaris are killed and several others are injured in a road accident near Jejuri in Pune district during the Ashadhi Wari pilgrimage. Multiple reports say the incident happens on the Saswad–Jejuri road near the Belsar toll area, close to a hotel, as devotees walk towards Jejuri. According to preliminary police findings, a truck associated with a dindi procession hits the group from behind after swerving while overtaking another vehicle. The truck is linked to the Thathe Maharaj Bhoshikar Dindi from Loha in Nanded district, and the victims are associated with the Kasabe Digraj dindi in Sangli district.
The truck driver, identified in reports as 63-year-old Balaji Eknath Dak, is detained. Authorities say the driver had reportedly taken medication for fever and cold and may have become drowsy; investigators are continuing to determine the exact cause. Injured warkaris are taken to hospital in Jejuri, and some reports mention care in the ICU.
Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar visits the accident spot and the hospital to ensure medical support. NCP-SP MLA Rohit Pawar urges a thorough inquiry and safety measures. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announces ₹5 lakh ex gratia for each of the three families of the deceased, while other senior leaders express condolences and direct monitoring of the situation.
