A United States citizen infected with Ebola in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is receiving treatment at Frankfurt University Hospital in Germany, officials say. The patient is admitted to the hospital’s special isolation unit in the early hours of Monday, with one report placing arrival at around 3 a.m. local time. The hospital says the person contracted the Bundibugyo variant of the Ebola virus while in Congo. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) previously reported that a US citizen working for a humanitarian organisation in Congo tested positive for Bundibugyo Ebola. After confirmation of infection, the patient is transferred to Germany for care in an isolation setting. The reports describe the case as involving a single patient and do not provide further clinical details, outcomes, or additional contact information. The hospital and other officials are handling the case under containment procedures designed for infectious diseases such as Ebola.
