Former Nigerian Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika says the late President Muhammadu Buhari left behind a “flourishing” Nigeria. In interviews reported by Nigerian media ahead of events marking the first anniversary of Buhari’s death on July 13, 2025, Sirika argues that Buhari’s administration improved the country’s economic performance, strengthened security, and created a solid foundation for subsequent governments. He dismisses assertions that Buhari’s policies worsened living conditions for Nigerians, saying he has been in government and has direct knowledge of the country’s state during that period.
Sirika also says the administration provided stability and sufficient resources for Buhari’s successor to build on. When asked about the policies of President Bola Tinubu, he declines to comment, instead emphasizing that both leaders are working within programmes linked to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ideology. He further contends that neither Buhari nor Tinubu pursued policies intended to harm Nigerians, arguing that decisions in both administrations were shaped by prevailing national challenges.
