West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announces that the state will provide ₹5 lakh each to 60 traditional Rath Yatra committees. Speaking during a coordination meeting at the Nabanna state secretariat to review preparations for the annual Rath Yatra on July 16, Adhikari says the government will ensure participation in the festival and will add any committees that may have been missed in future rounds. The plan also includes setting up “seva kendra” (service centres) in five-kilometre gaps to support pilgrims travelling to the Tarakeswar (Tarakeshwar) temple during the month of Shravan. The centres are described as providing drinking water and other assistance, including police assistance camps, temporary medical camps, ORS, and resting facilities, with rose petals planned to be showered from helicopters if weather permits. Adhikari also says development works worth ₹15 crore are underway to beautify Tarakeswar Dham. The fairs during the Rath Yatra are to be managed by the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs under his charge. Separate service centre arrangements are also mentioned for Kanwar pilgrims during the Shravan Mela, and Adhikari is scheduled to visit Tarakeswar on July 14.
