Anambra State authorities arraign and remand blogger Ejike Ofoegbu, owner and publisher of Igbo Times Magazine and INews, over allegations of criminal defamation and cybercrime tied to reports he published about Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo and his son, Ozonna. Multiple outlets report that Ofoegbu appears before a Magistrate Court in Awka/Amawbia and is remanded in Awka Correctional Centre pending the court process.
Prosecutors, as described by Premium Times and others, allege he created and published fabricated and defamatory stories to attract online traffic and generate financial gains, and that the publications are linked to cyberstalking/cyber-related offences. Several reports also note that Ofoegbu admits that some or all of the stories were fabricated. According to accounts of his statements and apology/retraction, he publicly retracts claims and acknowledges the stories were false.
The allegations include claims about Soludo allegedly disowning his son and comments attributed to Ozonna, including allegations of abuse—claims the blogger later retracts. The case continues as the court reviews the charges under applicable laws.
