Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and Black Ops 2 are now available on PS4 and PS5 as paid ports, but multiple outlets report that the releases offer only minimal improvements over the original games. Both titles are priced at $40 (£35) each, with additional map packs sold separately rather than included with the base game. Eurogamer and GameSpot both note that buying both games costs $80 (£70) before DLC, and that the DLC packs carry extra costs.
GameSpot also cites Digital Foundry analysis that the primary technical update is a resolution bump to 1080p on PS5 and PS4, without further options such as 4K output on PS5 or enhanced framerates like 120Hz. The outlets say there are no significant lighting, shadow, or other quality-of-life improvements typical of more complete remasters.
GameSpot adds that the original Black Ops games receive resolution enhancements for free on Xbox Series X|S via backwards compatibility, while PC players can use mods, contributing to the perception that the PlayStation ports are limited relative to available alternatives. Activision offers PlayStation Plus subscriber discounts, lowering pricing for the base games and map packs.
